PERPERIKON Perperikon is an archeological complex, spread on the area of more than 12 sq.km. It is composed of 4 basic elements, completing a flawless example from the latest period of the Stone Age. The researches show that Perperikon is an ancient temple of the Dionysus - the God of the Sun, worshipped by the Thracians. The finds from the archeological excavations, make the scientists from all over the world believe that this is exactly the legendary temple where Alexander the Great and later on the first Emperor of Rome August were granted with the prediction of conquering the world. Perperikon comprises four elements: the citadel, an acropolis at the top of the hill; a palace or temple immediately beneath the acropolis and facing southeast; and two outer cities, one on the northern and one on the southern slope of the hill. So far, no archaeological research has been done of the two outer cities but terrain observations indicate that they had streets and secular and religious buildings carved in the rock.
TATUL At first sight Tatul is an ordinary mountain village cuddled among the spiky mountain tops. But only a few kilometers away are found the ruins of an ancient Thracian temple. In the huge stone of the temple, which looks a lot like a pyramid, are carved two stone tombs, eight stair steps and a cubbyhole for a ritual slab. Here at sunset the ancient people were executing their sacrifices.
